Do you notice the details other people miss? Do you enjoy digging into information, spotting patterns, and making sense of numbers? Are you curious about how housing services work behind the scenes and want to play a key role in making sure things are fair, accurate and transparent for customers?

We’re looking for a thoughtful, analytical and customer-focused Rents & Service Charge Officer to join our Finance team at Wythenshawe Community Housing Group (WCHG).

This is a brilliant opportunity for someone who enjoys combining data, legislation and customer communication — and who takes pride in getting things right.

About the Role

This role is at the heart of how we manage rents and service charges across nearly 14,000 homes. You’ll help ensure charges are calculated accurately, clearly explained, and aligned with leases, legislation and our policies — protecting both our customers and the organisation.

You’ll work closely with colleagues across Finance, Housing and Development, as well as speaking directly with residents, helping them understand their charges and resolving queries in a clear, professional and approachable way.

If you’re naturally curious, methodical and enjoy asking “why does this look different?” — you’ll feel right at home here.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Preparing accurate service charge estimates and year-end statements in line with leases and legislation

  • Monitoring service charge income and expenditure, identifying variances and flagging risks early

  • Managing day-to-day requests for rent and service charge information, including re-lets and Right to Buy/Acquire cases

  • Maintaining sinking fund records and supporting reconciliations

  • Responding to customer queries and complaints about service charges in a clear and professional way

  • Supporting new developments by producing realistic, evidence-based service charge estimates

  • Providing accurate information for audits and management accounts

  • Attending meetings where needed to explain service charges confidently and clearly

  • Keeping housing and finance systems updated to ensure strong data quality

  • Contributing to process improvements that make our service more efficient and accurate

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working in a busy finance or housing finance environment

  • Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills

  • A naturally curious mindset — someone who questions, checks and wants to understand the “why” behind the numbers

  • Strong organisational skills and ability to work to deadlines

  • Confidence using IT systems, particularly Excel

  • Ability to explain financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues and residents

  • A customer-focused approach and strong communication skills

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • A good standard of literacy and numeracy (GCSEs in English and Maths or equivalent)

  • Willingness to work towards a relevant professional qualification

Local knowledge of, or interest in, the Wythenshawe community is a real plus — this role directly supports the services our residents receive.
